Summer Run League 2026 FAQ

Everything you need to know about entering, scoring, groups, promotions and fair play.

What is the Summer Run League?

The Summer Run League is a six-week series of 5 km races held on Zwift every Thursday. Participants compete against runners of similar ability in one of four groups.

Your best five results from the six races count towards the final standings.

When does the league take place?

The league runs for six consecutive Thursdays beginning on 4 June 2026.

To make participation easier, the same event is scheduled every two hours throughout the day, allowing you to choose a time that suits you. Only one result per week counts.

How do I enter?

  1. Join one of the Summer Run League events on Zwift.
  2. Register with ZwiftPower.
  3. Ensure your ZwiftPower account is connected to your Zwift account.
  4. Opt in to results sharing.
  5. Record heart rate data and follow the fair-play requirements below.

Do I need ZwiftPower?

Yes. Official results and league tables are generated using ZwiftPower. Without ZwiftPower registration and results opt-in, your result cannot be included in the official league table.

Fair Play Requirements

To ensure a fair and consistent competition, all participants are expected to:

  • Record heart rate data during every league run.
  • Complete all league runs with the treadmill set to 0% incline.
  • Use accurate and properly calibrated equipment.

While some of these data fields may not always be visible in ZwiftPower, participation in the league is based on the spirit of fair play and trust within the Run in the Park community.

How are runners grouped?

Runners are placed into one of four ability groups based on their current 5 km performance.

Group5 km Time
Group AUnder 22:20
Group B22:21 to 25:00
Group C25:01 to 28:51
Group D28:52 and over

What if I enter the wrong group?

The league uses an automatic promotion system. If your time is significantly faster than the qualifying standard for your entered group, you may be promoted to the appropriate group for scoring purposes.

This prevents runners from gaining an unfair advantage by entering a slower group.

How does promotion work?

Your result is compared to the qualifying times for all groups.

If your time meets the standard for a faster group, you will be promoted for that week’s scoring.

Points will then be calculated based on your finishing position within the promoted group.

This ensures that runners who improve significantly are scored fairly, while preventing anyone from gaining an advantage by entering a slower group.

How are points awarded?

Points are awarded based on finishing position within each group. The winner scores 100 points, with points reducing by finishing position. All finishers receive points.

Which results count?

Your best five scores from the six races are counted. This allows you to miss one event or recover from one poor performance without ruining your league challenge.

How are ties broken?

If two or more runners finish level on points, the following tie-breakers are used:

  1. Number of wins
  2. Number of top-five finishes
  3. Fastest 5 km time achieved during the series

Can I miss a week?

Yes. Since only your best five results count, you may miss one event without penalty.

Can I improve my group during the league?

Yes. If your performances indicate that you are capable of competing in a faster group, you may be promoted automatically for scoring purposes.

Your points will always be based on the group your performance qualifies for, ensuring that genuine improvement is rewarded fairly.

What route is used?

All league races take place on Prospect Park Loop in New York City on Zwift.

Why does my time in Zwiftpower not match my finish time in the Zwift Results?

All the races have staggered starts with Group D setting off first with Groups C, B and A then setting off at minute intervals. Zwiftpower records your time from the start time of Group D so a Group C runner will see their time +1 min, Group B will be +2 min and Group A +3 min. The results on the Run in the Park website remove these staggers so your time in the official results will match your time in the Zwift results

Why is my finish time for a 5km event not the same as my 'Best 5k:' in the Today's Run box on the left hand side of the Zwift Screen?

Zwift has a long standing 'feature' that means every event from the start pens has a lead in before the distance counter starts to climb even though the timer starts as the countdown reaches zero. The event is actually around 5.4km in length so make sure you leave the pens at race pace as the full distance counts towards your result. We are using the same route for each week to keep the distance consistent so that you can compare your times

Is the league suitable for beginners?

Absolutely. Group D is designed for runners completing 5 km in 28:52 or longer, making the league accessible to runners of all abilities.

Where are the results published?

Results are published on the Run in the Park website and are based on official ZwiftPower data.
